Worst dating advice ever (thanks, CNN!) February 16, 2008

Why should a female auto journalist give you advice on great date cars? Because as far as cars go, I know what turns a woman on and what really turns her off.

But most women these days are rather picky when it comes to a guy’s ride. Your car really does send her all the right or wrong messages about how much money you make and what gets your engine running. Let’s be honest, some girls just like a flashy ride too.

-From “Great Cars for First Dates”

Thanks, CNN, for reaffirming that women are most interested in the size of a man’s… bank account. Perhaps for the next date I go on, I’ll just hand over a copy of my last year’s 1040 tax form. Or I could just hand her an envelope of cash at the beginning of the evening.

I honestly don’t know whether men or women should be more upset about this article.

Onward into the unknown February 15, 2008

Gonzaga was a great experience, but didn’t leave me with the warm glowing feeling I was hoping for. While I enjoyed working with my audience, honestly, they would have gone about their lives perfectly happily had they not heard me speak. And knowing that makes it hard to market myself, at least for this particular speech topic.

So I’ll continue looking into speaking gigs, but the bulk of my effort is going elsewhere. I’m thinking sales now. Reentering the workforce in a technological sales job is one possibility. It would allow me to combine my tech background with my people skills, two things I enjoy. Plus, there aren’t many people with both those skill sets, which makes me a valuable commodity.

Another option is finding an interesting foreign product already in existence and selling it here. Or, even more excitingly, designing my own, finding someone to manufacture it, and selling it here. I met two guys at a Northwest Internet Advertising Group networking event who did exactly that with disposable cock rings and have a beautiful rags to riches story as a result.

And that’s why my roommate and I have been tossing around sex toy ideas for the past two days. It turns out we’re actually pretty good at this, as we’ve come up with a number of product ideas that have recently appeared on the market, including 2007’s vibrator of the year. Not bad for two days of brainstorming.

There’s a strange man in my backseat February 12, 2008

Leaving a friend’s house at about midnight last night, I got in my car and was about to start it when something made me turn around. It looked like there was something lying in my backseat and OH MY GOD it was a person! I leapt out of the car and turned back to see a dirty, disheveled man exiting my car looking rather embarrassed. “I’m sorry,” he said, “I just needed a place to sleep.” I told him it was ok and asked him if everything was ok inside. He told me it was, thanked me for not being upset, shook my hand, and walked off.

After calling my friend to warn the rest of her guests to check their backseats when they left, I began to think about the event. I never locked my car doors before. I always figured that if someone’s going to steal something, I’d rather not have them break a window. But I never expected they’d still be there when I got back. Maybe I will start locking my doors after all.

Then again, my car’s sitting unlocked my driveway right now, so I guess old habits just die hard.

Five banana, six banana, seven banana, more… February 11, 2008

Craig and I did go a little overboard with the sixty bananas last week. We’re going with just forty-five bananas this time; with the leftover bananas from last week we should be ok…
