The best ice cream in the world is at Berthillon

I appreciate fine ice cream more than I appreciate fine wine. I look for artisanal ice creams and flavors everywhere I travel. I easily ate over $100 worth of gelato during my week in Italy. So trust me, the ice cream at Maison Berthillon in Paris is good.

So good that the first day I went I got two scoops, walked down the street, turned back and bought another two. So good, that the next day I walked through the pouring rain to get another three. And so good that I’ll be thinking about the Chocolate Gianduja Orange for a long, long time. The rest of the diverse selection of flavors (by diverse, I mean they don’t just have Caramel. They have Caramel, Salted Caramel, and Ginger Caramel) are fantastic, but the Gianduja Orange is the best ice cream I’ve ever had.

The ice cream was so good that I came back home and went on the internet to see what else I’ve been missing. And discovered Bi-Rite Creamery in San Francisco. To think, I almost left the bay area without tasting their ginger ice cream! That would have been a tragedy.

    hi !
I know that ice scream. i’m living in Paris and since my childhood my father speaks about the ice scream of Berthillon and to see that somebody who lives so far away from France knows that ice scream makes me very proud of my country and especially of the french gastronomy.
    thanks for that article

definitely! berthillon is awesome but so is Ici (which means “here” in french) located in berkeley is amazing as well. i love your blog!

  • Try Graeter’s in Ohio and the surrounding region. I have not had the French ice cream you speak of but the Black Raspberry Chocolate chip at Graeter’s is astounding, stunningly wonderful ice cream.
